If something is very complicated, hard to understand or quite chaotic, you can use one of the following expressions:

Ik kan er geen touw aan vastknopen

“I cannot tie a rope to it”, meaning: I don’t understand a thing

Ik begrijp er geen jota van

“I don’t understand a letter of it”

Dat gaat mij boven mijn pet

“That is far beyond my understanding”
