In winter erwtensoep (pea soup) is very popular. Depending on the weather, stamppot and winter soups are eaten from fall to the beginning of spring. It is commonly believed that a bowl of erwtensoep tastes better when it’s freezing outside. Which may be true, as in winter it is often served at outdoor activities.
Literal translation: “In the land of the blind, one-eye is king.” Meaning: “Where none can do something, the one who has even a little knowledge has the power” English equivalent: “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king”
