On February 14th it is Valentine’s day. In The Netherlands this is not such a huge holiday. But some people send an anonymous postcard to their (boy-)friend or (girl-)friend.

Here is the podcast made by Say it in Dutch a while ago. With this you can practise some phrases.

You can find the downloadlinks for the mp3 and pdf above.

gaan [6] erop ingaan

Gaan + Prepositions, Part VI

Ingaan op ..

We hebben het hem gevraagd, maar..
Hij gaat er liever niet op in.

We asked him about it, but…
he doesn’t want to talk about it, he doesn’t want to go into that

Note that this verb is not the same as  erin opgaan! 🙂

Geen commentaar! (book)

gaan [5] erop afgaan

Gaan + Prepositions, Part V:

(Regelrecht) Afgaan op ..

Hij gaat gevaren niet uit de weg. Integendeel.
Hij gaat er regelrecht op af.

He does not avoid any dangers. On the contrary. He looks them straight in the eye.
(He approaches / goes towards them directly / in a straight line.)

Erop af!
